Making Music with Marybeth Davis
The students at Trinity are learning to make music by being actively involved in singing melodic melodies using solfege...think of the song Doe, A Deer from the movie The Sound of Music = Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do! Our students are also playing on a variety of different instruments. Fourth and Fifth Graders are preparing for future middle school band experiences by learning to read music and play an instrument called the recorder. The Third Graders are working with handbells. First through Fifth Graders are learning to play and create music on the school's Orff instruments which include xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels.
Our Kindergarten students are learning to keep a steady beat by passing bean bag frogs. Our Pre-K students are having fun with keeping the beat on Tapping Pages. All of our younger students have also learned to sing "draw a circle and color it in and add a stem for a quarter note." We've had fun reading quarter notes while playing on rhythm sticks, castanets, triangles, and woodblocks.
